RW Abbey: Library
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The library has never looked better in seasons as shelves have been repaired and so have tables and chairs. The once empty sleeves now have more books in them and not only that the books are in an ABC order and arranged by subject to better find what one is looking for. The beautifully crafted windows are well cleaned. This gives the library plenty of light during the daylight hours. The room has a high vaulted ceiling. The flagstones of the floor are cool and smooth, and echoes are sometimes heard when beasts walk. Brass lamps containing short, fat little white candles provide enough light for reading. Some books are still being mended but being working on getting on the shelves. The backroom is even very clean and organized as well. Books were found in the attic and some from Ferravale were added that the Ferravale beast had maybe two copies of something so gave Redwall one of the copies for the Redwall library, all in all a lot of hard work has done wonders for the library. On an Oakwood desk is the charter laying inside a clear glass case for all to see. The glass case keeps it safe and clean. Some other chairs large and small, wooden and soft, have been placed in varies places in the library and a pile of covers and blankets sit in one corner with a few pillows as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Krisha has been back a short while, a couple beasts made sure she got back from Ferravale ok and then she came here where it was more quiet. A few beasts did poke their heads in but she muttered and snorted once, maybe a bit over protective of the cub she adopted, she didn't ask details of where its parents were, she just adopted the orphan and held it as it was now asleep.

Oz made his way into the area of the library and over to where Krisha was, a novice whispered something to which he replied "I am sure it's fine...." But he was careful as he walked over "Krisha?" He knew about the badger cub but not many details as he was only there briefly when someone brought it to her.

Krisha at first started to growl then noticed whom it was and spoke softly "Hi...Oz." She looked down at the badger cub in her arms."Sorry...couple days ok in Ferravale...last couple weeks not been...great" She frowned "I have yet to find her a name"

Benar walks through the door behind Oz, he's also heard something about a badger cub, he peers around his Badger Father and then shuts the door to the library softly, clicking the latch into place, "A name takes time," He murmurs softly, stepping around Oz, habit gliding around his ankles, "But this is... a turn up Krisha, you go away for a few weeks then turn up with a badger cub? Can we here at the abbey help at all?"

Oz nods a hello to Benar and steps aside. He smiles "I am sure your find a name no worries on it right now"

Krisha sighs" Yeah...came back before the others. They will be back, don't know...soonish"She frowns a little, "And...I am...ok guess, someone brought me the cub, its mother had died shortly after childbirth and....guess they thought I could help, since I was a badger."She talks softly .

Benar asks, "Well Krisha if you or the little one need anything, we here at the abbey will do what we can to help," He moves closer and peers down at the little one, "Do you have enough milk and other food stuffs? I am sure Oz can offer some advice too he's raised hundreds of orphans over the seasons here in Redwall."

Oz chuckles "Many over the seasons, some now even. Yes there are some dibbuns who have a parent and some who don't"

Krisha lets him see the small babe "Yeah...got milk...since"She frowns but goes on "And if needed bottles are here. Its too small to...eat food yet."

Benar nods his head, "Well I am glad we can help you look after them in any way. Please do not feel as if you have to look after them alone. Oz and everyone else in the Order will be more then happy to lend you a hand."

Oz nods "That is correct and I am sure even Xander will help once he gets back from the trip with the others that went with him." He is curious after talking with the squirrel that was with the badger maid on what did happen and seems unsure of weather to ask or not. "Its good your home Krisha."

Krisha nods slowly, "Yeah..." She frowns a little and closes her eyes before opening them and speaking. "Maybe...shouldn't of left early..he's probably worried, but then again if I had not then maybe this little one would have no one or maybe it would of ...would of died."She holds the baby close as it yawns and opens its eyes, she smiles as a couple tears go down her face and speaks"We were...supposed to have a cub...of our own but...it died before it even had a chance to..be born. I...I left to come home early and just left him and the others a note to not worry, I..I just needed some time alone...to think. And yea he probably will help, he doesn't know about the cub here I got her like when I got home to father...the cub needs me..maybe I need her too....we need each other I could be her mother right?"

Oz listens and if allowed will give her a hug

Benar glances up at Oz then steps forward and kneels down next to Krisha, he places a paw on her arm, "I had no idea my dear, I am... so very sorry for your loss and of course the little one needs you. But you are not to struggle on your own you hear me? We are all family here and will do all we can to help you and Xander and everyone else."

Krisha lets some other tears fall, she sniffs and nods slowly "ok....and I know...family." She sighs "I just made matters worse.....they probably think me horrible for just leaving. I didn't travel alone..there was a couple otters and Mariposa who got me home."

Oz speaks after a short while "No one hates you Krisha, they are most likely worried and knowing Xander most likely will be getting back to the abbey very soon. I don't know how far...Willowbark was it?"

Benar flicks his tail from side to side, "Indeed no one will hate you Krisha, they are probably worrying however. You should... have left more then a note. But I am sure once Xander reaches the Abbey all will be well and you have this little one to care for now as well."

Krisha says, "Yeah Willowbark...like 2-3 weeks...depends on which way you go." She looks over at Benar "I know...just was a lot on my mind and everything happening at once." The baby goes back to sleep as the badger smiles"By then I will think of a name for her"

Oz says, "I am sure it will be a good name."

Benar nods his head, "I am sure you will find a good name Krisha, and ... with everything on your mind, make sure to let Oz and all of us help with the little one ok?"

Krisha nods, she manages a small smile "I..I will Abbot Benar. It still was...good to come back early as it may of saved the little one life. Also I will stay at the abbey...Ferravale isn't the best place to stay right now and...for sure not in the blacksmith shop there and yes my father knows I am at the abbey, he is the one that made sure I was escorted from Ferravale to here"

Oz says, "That's good. Your father probably would of come along is my guess if it wasn't cold weather right now"

Benar says, "Well then I shall dig out the good port, your father will want a drink when he drops in to visit you and the little one. Especially in this cold weather. And you are always welcome here with us"

Krisha smiles "I am sure you would not  want a crying dibbun waking you at night and I do still have a room in the abbey I can use."She seems to be feeling a little better as she chuckles "Yeah....father would of make a good guard on the road...but he will likely stay at his forge till the snow is gone, he can't go too far in the snow but I am sure he would find a way if he needed to"

Oz says, "Yes only meet him twice and wouldn't advise anyone to get on his bad side ever and I remember him coming to the abbey once as well but he didn't stay long as...sort of made some beasts feel uneasy so he left"

Benar says, "We have a whole staff under Oz who are adept at helping when the little ones wake up in the middle of the night Krisha, so don't worry about people helping at any time of day."

Krisha says, "More concerned our abbot couldn't sleep."The cub started to wake, whimpering some till it was rocked slowly back to sleep as she smiles again"I...think I am doing ok with a dibbun..I have helped a little with other dibbuns."

Oz says, "Your do fine Krisha and your have help if needed”

"Benar says, "Indeed you will be fine," He chuckles softly, "And I am not that important, nor am I that old I can manage a sleepless night or two."

Krisha nods again."Just...got to get use to her...a dibun that's my own, even if through adoption. I was adopted and turned out fine. I am sure she will also."She speaks to Oz"And I can still help with the abbey dibbuns if I am able, and go back to lessons...well if I am not too busy”

Oz tilts his head "Don't worry about lessons, just focus on you and the cub. There is plenty of time for lessons" Least there better be plenty of time for lessons as he smiles" As for help with other dibbuns, yes...but your little one comes first."

Benar says, "Indeed there will be plenty of time for lessons and I can always give you books to read to help with your studies. So you can continue to learn and advance whilst looking after the young one"

Krisha smiles "Alright and yes no rush....sides rather not have extra worries on any sudden jobs anytime soon"

Oz arches an eyebrow and then smiles "No...I plan to be around many more seasons and I still have the journal I mentioned before of entries from. maybe even when the abbey first got a badger mother, not sure how far back it goes but there is entries from many of them...feelings and such, tips they had..struggles. I had you read my entry when I first started"He chuckles at the memory"The dibbuns ..painted the dibbun class room with, think was green beans...its funny now, not so then...think one of them is an abbey brother now of all things..."He hmms...yeah he HAD been badger mother a while but still has many more seasons to watch even those now become adults.

Benar says, "Well we have the full diaries of Badger Mother Bella, the first Badger Mother of Redwall and Lady of Brockhall, Ruler of Mossflower in the days before the abbey was built. Her wisdom is forever and legendary."

Krisha listens as they speak "So there was...a badger mother before the abbey was built?"

Ace wanders into the library and stays by the doorway as he doesn't want to interrupt anything. He yawns a little as seems he was asslep in a far off corner and by the name of the book in his paw craft ideas maybe, its unclear as title isn't seen well.

Oz says, "I believe so...maybe not the official title but she did care for any young beasts, it was later the title was given. I..managed to read a lot before I lost my sight even after that I can ask someone to read me something from the journal at times."

Benar says, "Yes, Bella was Mother... leader of Mossflower before the Abbey was built. Her diaries are in my office if you ever want to look at them," He turns as the hedgehog walks over and smiles at the young hedgehog, "Afternoon there young one, come in, come in, just be quiet," He motions to the little badger cub in Krisha's lap, "We do not want to wake the little one"

Ace walks slowly as he looks at the small cub and smiles"Well....lookie thar, a dibbun...and so small"

Krisha smiles "Yes she is small...no name...yet. Maybe I can name her after some beast or....well I will think of a good name...soon"

Oz listens quietly, he sits down in a chair as he has stood a while and after a short time he speaks "Maybe...Northstar."He says quietly.

Benar says, "That is a nice name Oz," He looks back at Ace and smiles, "Indeed, Krisha's new baby... I do not think we have met yet young hedgehog. I am Benar, Abbot of Redwall and you are?"

Ace grins as he offers a paw to shake "Ace...I don't come to the abbey much really, well I have de past few days the food is good and the fireplace makes it much warmer inside than out"

Krisha smiles "Northstar....maybe I will use that name..if it's ok..."She does ask "Who was...Northstar? I may of heard the name before I...don't know"

Benar takes the paw and shakes it, "Well Ace, you are most welcome here within our walls whenever you wish. Our food and our fireplaces are always free for those who live within the woods and wish for a warm place to escape the weather."

Oz seems to not answer, then he does "It was the name of my mate from the Northlands...think of her a lot in winter."He clears his throat, its fine he can speak of it several seasons later "She died, her and my son whom was barely a season at the time. If..things had been different that day or even...some weeks later, I am very sure I would even be here or anywhere for that matter."He does not go into details, he had told the tale a couple times and can again if asked but may be best another day and time.

Ace grins, he listens to Oz but is mainly listening to the abbot"Well the food here is famous I heard...heard even some vermin like it"

Krisha smiles, she looks at the tiny badger cub "Northstar Winters..."She smiles as she rocks the baby but rocking can sometimes make one tried as she is soon asleep too in the chair, but still has a good hold on the baby in her arms.

Benar glances at Oz and Krisha and steps away toward the door, motioning Ace to follow, "Well the food is famous, our Friar is the best chef on these shores. We are very lucky to have such a talented beast with us."

Ace smiles "Maybe we should..sample some and let de lass sleep wot say?"

Oz had been lost in thought and blinked as he slowly stood "Yes, let's let Krisha and the cub sleep, she will be fine and we can let others know to not distrube her as she rests, she most likely needs some rest and any class left today can be elsewhere"

Benar says, "Sounds like a perfect idea to me," He undoes the latch  opens the door, "I have not had lunch yet, so let's head on down and I am sure I  can send someone to find us lunch."

Ace smiles "Well I am sure they wouldn't let beasts be hungry, not here at Redwall"

RW Abbey: Cavern Hole
--------------------------------------------------------------------
This room is slightly smaller than Great Hall, but still of a size large enough to accommodate a great number of gathered beasts. A large fireplace is set into one of the walls, and there are a series of small tables and chairs near one end for beasts who are eating late, or simply prefer the smaller tables for their meals. Cushions and blankets have been set in one corner. A short flight of steps leads up to Great Hall, and along the walls of the stairs, going both ways, the word 'Redwall' has been carved into the stone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Ace smiles as he looks around Cavern Hole , he then speaks "So been a good day my friends? "

Oz says, "A fairly good day. I am just glad Krisha is back and safe."

Thomas descends the stairs slowly, one paw resting on the wall to guide his steps. "Good afternoon. Oz, I believe."

Ace nods "I noticed she was back....but not the others? Something happen I need to know about?" He nods a hello to the entering mouse "Hello good sir."

Oz smiles "Its me yes...and the others are fine, far as i know and...well you can ask Krisha later if she is willing to share, for now she needs some alone time."

Thomas makes his way to a chair. "Hello. Don't believe we've met. Are you new to the Abbey?"

Ace says, "My name is Ace..sort of new to the area"

Benar returns from the kitchen, a large tray held in his hands laden down with all sorts of lunch dishes, a tea pot and a stack of cups. Plates, three types of Jam, three times of cream, butter, and about five types of scones and what looks like a gypsy tart, laden with iced frosting on the top.

Oz sits down in one of the chairs

Thomas mhmms. "Ace... Welcome to Mossflower, in that case." He sniffs the air, when Benar enters. "It would seem Lacota was in a particularly generous mood today. Those are freshly baked scones I smell, if I'm not mistaken... And something else. I do hope it is enough for four, since I just joined the party..."

Ace chuckles "Well...looks like a late lunch is to be had friends...well we will have to thank him later for his good mood"

Benar glances over the tray at the mouse and grins back softly, "Well Thomas surely that depends on if the Abbot invites you to join his party for lunch," He sets down the tray and starts to unload various plates and cups, "I mean it'd be rude to presume no?" He chuckles as he sets down a fourth cup and plate, "But thankfully I saw you from the door and Lacota was scandalised I'd missed lunch again. He's always telling me off for not eating properly and when he heard Oz was with me he all but insisted we both eat a proper lunch and I am to make sure the pair of you eat as well."

Oz chuckles "Its not wise to miss lunch and if Lacota hears you did your most likely get a lecture"

Thomas smiles, and nods. "No surprise there. He has a lot of mouths to feed, and if any of them miss a meal, that is surely distressing for him." The mouse doesn't look toward Ace when he asks, "Might I ask, what brings you to Mossflower and Redwall?"

Ace smiles "Adventure...chance to be on me own, I get to help beasts as I am a scout in Mossflower Defenders just recently, not been anything to defend from lately but hey that's good as well!"

Benar serves up two scones to everyone and then starts to pour the tea, "Well I for one am glad for a quiet Season, I have had enough of kidnappings and attacks and death these last several seasons." He finishes the with tea pot and picks up his cup and saucer and settles back in his chair, "What Ace isn't telling you is that he's also really in favor of our warm fireplaces now come on everyone, eat up."

Oz smiles as he lets the abbot pour him some tea and nods "As am I and hope it remains fairly quiet." He takes a sip of the tea.

Thomas reaches toward his cup, feeling about till his fingers graze the handle, and he picks it up carefully. "Adventure. I see. I did something like that...once. A long time ago now..."

Ace says, "Adventure is not for all and more like warm fireplaces...least I think so anyways" He sits down for some tea and scones and smiles "And I have yet to meet anyone who dislikes Redwall food"

Benar has adjusted Thomas and Oz's plates and food so it is all within easy reach and next to one another. He inhales his tea and settles back deeper into his Chair, "We are lucky to have Friar Lacota, not only can he cook extremely well he's a wonderful friend too."

Oz says, "Cant say I ever liked adventure....Zork did. I only came to Redwall looking for Maxtor and planed to leave the next day...well I stayed as most know and glad I did stay"

Ace nods as he gets some food and drink "Sounds like someone who be great for the Defenders"

Thomas sips his tea slowly, and nods. "He is a fine beast." Carefully setting his cup down, the mouse continues, "Yes, I traveled for many seasons. I know Mossflower quite well, despite what you may assume... It's easy to learn one's way around if one knows what they are doing." He picks up a scone, and, after taking an appreciative sniff, bites into it.

Benar asks, "Lacota? I ... wouldn't suggest joining the defenders to him," He peers over his glasses at the hedgehog, "I am not entirely sure I approve of the Defenders either. During times of peace... we have gotten by with our friends and the Abbey Guard as needed. I do worry you youngsters are sometimes looking for trouble, or painting targets on your backs for every passing vermin with evil intent.

Oz nods slowly "He would of liked it yes....."He is quiet as he drinks some tea and eats a little of a scone "The blade Xander has was his...Blade of The Northwind Storms."

Ace decides to not ask, he can guess"Well.....I bet he be proud of him, Xander is a good leader...some may not think so but he is."

Thomas hmms. "I've met one of your Defender friends, though I believe he's only nominally a member....That's what he told me, anyway." Another bite of scone. "Myself, I'd probably be a rubbish fighter."

Benar finishes preparing a scone and smiles, "Xander is a good boy, I know he tries to do good. But I still worry, but then I think that is part of my job, worrying about every beast."

Oz says, "I avoid fighting...though I do know how to use a staff, its one thing me and Zork's father made us learn, the staff...only I never went past staff, hated blades and fighting...yes I have knocked a beast out with my staff...not to long ago on the road, some weasel trying to rob me, as if I had anything really...""

Ace says, "Your the Abbot and you care, its a good thing and a leader, of any group, does have a lot to think on and beasts to make sure are ok."

Thomas nods. "He is a fine Abbot. I think so, at least."

Benar says, "Why thank you Thomas," He sets down his tea cup and smiles softly, "I'm actually the best with the bow, that is where I was a real expert. But weapons were like an annoying necessity I was a supply corporal first and foremost."

Oz says, "Yes Xander has come a long way as leader of a group, he is still learning I believe but he does well and trains hard...maybe too hard sometimes"

Ace asks, "You were an archer before you joined the order sir?"

Thomas reaches for his teacup again. "I wasn't aware of that, either. Do, tell."

Oz sips his tea, he doesn't need to ask as he has heard about it but he does listen anyways.

Benar chuckles softly, "This is all long ago, but when I was very young I joined the army of Southsward, I was a Supply Corporal in the Army of the Squirrel King. I learnt archery and how to use a sword but my main job was in making sure everyone got their supplies. Then... after several seasons of that I returned to Mossflower and came to the Abbey. I broke my bow, I shattered my sword and turned it into the tools that now fill my kiln and have never touched a weapon since."

Ace says, "Don't think I could ever break my ax...then for some guess its hard to think of not using a weapon for your trained in it""

Thomas ahhs, nodding again. "Yes,

Thomas ahhs, nodding again. "Yes, I know of Southsward. Never been that far south, though..."

Oz says, "my staff is mainly for when I go outside the abbey....very rarely, or in winter as sadly ice is annoying, very annoying in fact and the staff will help me avoid the ice."

Benar smiles from the memory, "You will one day young hedgehog, one day you will set it aside. I do not think you have the bloodrage of the eternal warrior in you. It was... the first day of my new life when I joined the order"

Ace asks, "Bloodrage? Not even sure what that is friend...I protect beasts"

Oz sips his tea "Sort of like Bloodwrath, not good....though even a beast that's been a warrior a very long time...can set aside a weapon..Zork did, he was a Brother in the order before he died....never ever thought, no one did, that he of all beasts would become an order beast..surprised a lot of beasts including me"

Thomas says, "Ah, I'm a storyteller. I know of the Bloodrage, or the Bloodwrath... Two very similar things. It usually affects Badger lords, of Salamandastron. That's usually where you'll hear tales of it from... It can affect just about any warrior beast, though more rarely."

Ace shrugs "Who knows.....but I do have other skills besides using an ax. I...wellll"He looks around and speaks "I knit...and sometimes I make some things out of wood like spinning tops...once a chair" He looks at his book...=Kniting Craft Ideas=.

Benar smiles warmly, "Knitting is relaxing, I am quite good at that myself, though I prefer pottery myself these days, it is nice and warm in my kiln"

Thomas quirks a brow. "You knit? Not many fighter beasts would admit to that."

Oz says, "soon we will be getting ready for spring planting.....well somewhat soon its still winter."

Ace smiles "It is useful...made a scarf for cold nights"

Benar says, "Yes Brother Elmef was talking to me about spring planting," He sets down his cup and looks at the fire, "I should go talk to him see how the fields are holding up"

Oz says, "yes fields will need to be gotten ready and then seeds planed and all can help with that and are welcomed to help in fact"

Ace says, "I can help. I enjoy being helpful"

Thomas mmms. "Spring is right around the corner. Very soon." He sips his tea. "I look forward to it. Spring always...smells... It smells so very nice. The flowers blooming..."

Benar smiles, "Thank you Ace, maybe when we get to the planting we'll need you help. But for now I just need to talk to Elder Elmef and the others.

Ace nods “Yes sounds important good sir”

Benar stands up, "I will see you all later, for now I must get to my meeting, so I will see you all soon," He raises a hand in farewell then heads for the stairs

Ace waves as the abbot heads off.

Oz says, "I most likely will keep the dibbuns busy, though they can help a little with planting the seeds, they do like to place seeds in the tiny holes and cover them with dirt...its fun they said last spring." He finishes his tea and scones and decides on a nap by the fireplace.
