D.R. gets the news about Zinnia... (Missing Abbot TP)

SCENE: Redwall Abbey Pond

CHARACTERS: DoraRose, a female mouse.  Zarok, a male monitor lizard.  Leon, a male mouse.  Thunderwing, a male eagle.  Lacota, a male squirrel.

LOG:

DoraRose is by the pond, talking to some guards about her trip tomorrow to Ferravale.  The guards nod, and one goes to tell the beasts in charge of the Abbey in the Abbot's absence about it (except for Leon; the mouse asked to tell him herself).  The Warrior is then left alone, staring at the pond.

Zarok runs up to DoraRose, not wearing his habit, but his old vest and tattered shorts.  "Dorroze!" he calls from across the grounds before reaching her.  "When we leavin'?"  He's excited, nervous, and vengeful in equal measure, a strange mix of emotions for sure.

DoraRose turns as the sound of her name, then smiles at the lizard, looking slightly confused.  "What do you mean, Zarok?  And where's your habit?"  She goes to hug him.

Zarok returns the hug tightly.  "I thought we were goin' huntin'.  Out to save 'nar.  Promised Ozzer I wouldn't go alone," he explains. "Didn't wanna get blood on my habit."

Leon walks in looking like he been crying, a novice beside him as he replies "I don't want to be in the infirm...leave me alone" He goes to sit by the edge of the pond

DoraRose suppresses a sigh.  "But, Zarok, I thought you were a Novice of the Order.  Doesn't that mean that you can't go off killing beasts....I think...."  Then again, she doesn't know the Abbey Charter, so there's that.  She then hears her husband's voice, turns, and sees the look on his face.  "Leon, what's wrong?"  She lets the lizard go and hurries over to kneel beside the other mouse.

"I'm a novice, yeah," Zarok sighs. "But they have Benar.  My father.  I've fought to save 'm before, c'n do it again..." he trails off as Dora hurries over to Leon, quickly running in his aunt's wake.

Leon stares at the icy pond, "She's....dead....she was already dead before he brought her in the infirm." He closes his eyes"Then again,  there was no way for a healer to save her, not where she was hit"

DoraRose looks up at her husband's face.  "Who?  Who are you talking about?"  She's been busy training, doing guard duties, and preparing to go get her grandmother and daughter (she still needs to tell the Master Healer about that, too), so

Zarok reaches DoraRose and Leon's side and tries to put his tail around the Master Healer's shoulders in a comforting sort of way.  He knows the answer already....

"Sister Zinnia.....she was killed, Takeo found her and brought her back to the abbey, she had an arrow in her chest when she was found...she most likely died almost instantly"  Leon says sadly....

Thunderwing circles the pond and lands nearby.

DoraRose falls backwards onto her rear as if the words were an actual thing that knocked her over backwards.  "Wh....wh.....what?"  She stares at the Master Healer in shock, her mouth open.  She's too surprised to even cry yet...

Zarok moves behind DoraRose quickly before she can fall backwards, lowering her down gently onto the damp grass.  Sorrow fills his dark reptile eyes and he goes to wrap his arms around her, to hold her steady.

Leon stares at her and frowns, he rather not repeat it, its too horrible to repeat.  He doesn't even see Thunderwing enter yet.  He sighs "Sister Zinnia is...is dead. Someone killed her "

And now the eagle is right there at these words...  "Friend Zinnia....."  Some sort of battlefire is in his eyes, yeah someone harmed one of his badger friends...this someone will die soon if the eagle has his way. "No one killa Thunder's  friend...Thunderwing will hurta plenty good!"

DoraRose starts to shake as tears course down her cheek.  Her paws balled into fists, she manages to choke out, "They will PAY.  They will PAY.  NOBEAST kills my friends...."  Then the tears overcome her and she breaks down sobbing.

Zarok holds DoraRose a little tighter.  "Will go with you," he says firmly.  "We'll put a stop to it," he whispers, almost forlornly, tongue flickering briefly through the air.

Leon blinks and sighs, "I just hope no one else...gets killed or hurt bad. I know Xander isn't taking this well, Takeo had to knock him out and Oz tackled him to make sure he didn't  leave the abbey"

Thunderwing steps back, opens his wings and sounds off a loud kkkawwwww! and is in the air and gone!

DoraRose wipes away her tears.  "I'm going to Ferravale tomorrow to get Nana and Lily.  The Abbey seems safer.  Don't worry; I was hoping to take Emyuil, and maybe see if Marek can help escort them back.  I still don't fully trust him, but I think he would rather die than see anything happen to our daughter."  She goes to hug the lizard as she looks at her husband.  "Does that sound alright to you?"

"Can I come?" Zarok hisses immediately.  "Pleeeeaze?"  He tilts his head inquisitively.  "I wanna fight, an' help."

Leon speaks "I...I trust Marek.  I know some don't still but I do. Just stay safe...please Dora, I can't lose you or any member of my family"

DoraRose pauses.  "Welll.....okay. You can come for this.  Just /be careful/," she adds firmly.  Turning to her husband, she goes to hug him tightly.  "I will, don't worry.  I'll be as careful as I can be.  I'm trying to gather up a few more Warriors to help make sure we get back here safely."

Zarok smiles. "Will be careful, I promise. Wohoo!" He does a quick fist-pump. "I'ma tell Terfil to stay. Don't want him gettin' hurt...ssshould I get a weapon?"

Leon hugs Dorarose as well and then stands, "I...should get back to the infirm." He walks quietly that direction.

Lacota walks briskly toward the pond, frowning.

DoraRose watches her husband walk off and stands.  "Oi....um.....I honestly have no idea, Zarok.  Probably....yeah, you should.  A staff would be good; you can really hurt beasts with that."  And she's really wanting to help him obey the Abbey Charter (which she needs to brush up on because she has no idea what all it actually says).  She starts to pace, her agitation and grief and Warrior's energy filling her with nervous energy.
DoraRose has yet to see the Friar.

Zarok nods, smiling reassuringly "Tha'z good!" He runs off to the Champion's cottage to see if he can't find a quarterstaff. "Be right back!"

Lacota draws near, looking as if he's about to lecture a wayward dibbun. "DoraRose, do not tell me you are about to do what I think you're about to do." He looks at her, arms crossed. "I think it's a *bad idea*. Just how long are you planning to be gone?"

DoraRose is so riled up she literally takes a swing at the Friar before she realizes what she's doing.  "WHA--DON'T SCARE ME LIKE THAT!!!"  She shrieks, stomping a foot.  "And what on Earth are you talking about?!"  She asks after he finishes speaking.  "I'm only going to be gone from dawn until almost suppertime tomorrow."

Lacota raises his paws defensively as the warrior takes a swing. "Whoa, Lass, calm down." He frowns, looking off toward the pond. "The road is extremely dangerous right now. I know about Zinnia... News travels fast, especially here." He sighs. "But with my closest friend missing, and my other dear friend dead... I would be remiss if I didn't say anything to you right now. If you insist on going to Ferravale tomorrow, *I* have to insist you take Magramba with you."

DoraRose twitches.  And of course Lacota is partly in charge of the Abbey so of /course/ she has to listen to him, even though she's not a member of the Order.  Of flipping /course/.  Not that she objects to taking the Champion along for the ride; quite the opposite.  She just is not in the mood to take be ordered around right now.  Taking a deep breath, she covers her eyes with a paw and breaths out slowly.  "Sorry.  I'm feeling pretty.....upset right now.  I didn't realize it was you."  Dropping her paw back to her side, she manages a smile.  "I'll talk to him, but if he can't come, is it okay if I take a couple of guards, instead?  I've had a couple of volunteers; Lily's gotten much better at making friends."

Lacota nods his head. "Of course." He smiles sadly. "I completely understand." The squirrel sighs, looking up at the sky. "That is agreeable to me. Just be sure to ask him, alright... I... I know you can handle yourself very adeptly... But if something were to happen, I just don't know..." The Friar trails off there, leaving unsaid that he's afraid of losing those he cares for. "Good luck tomorrow, and be safe," he says, in parting, as he turns to head back indoors.

And Dora goes to do just that.  She understood what he meant.
