Log:

Matilda rolls her eyes and goes to kick the Blackrose member. "Oh, him and what army? If he's anything like the other vermin bosses I've met, he'll only maybe hunt us down so he can kill you himself." Looking back at the hare, she nods. "Aye. This base you know of sounds like a good place to go. We can escort the Brother and Sister to their home here in a day or 2." Looking down at the rat on the ground, she adds, "I do know a little healing, so I can keep him from bleeding to death and get you your bolt back at the same time. If he cooperates, of course."

"Well, what your boss does or doesn't like won't matter much to you if you bleed out and die 'ere." John stands, looking down with disgust at the slaver. "To be frank, mate, like Matilda here said, he'll probably try to kill you now that you've been captured. After all, if he cares enough to came after us for you, he'll certainly care about what you might or might not say." Earwood, during this, takes a step back, raising the spear to rest on the ground - the captive he deems isn't much of a threat anymore. The squirrel continues. "The way I see it, slaver, is that you're a dead beast whether you tell us anything or not." He shrugs. "Because we aren't going to let y'go anytime soon. I'm certainly not going to, at least." The squirrel glances at his knife, then at the bolt. "Really now, you should at least do something before you get yourself killed, or it'd be a waste! The good beast here even offered to help!" The other rat goes over to the woodlanders, offering an awkward smile. "Eh, hello! I'm Earwood

-"Eh, hello! I'm Earwood - helping the squirrel John here with the slaver trouble! The base is south o' here, right, rabbit?" He is well intentioned, if a little unfamiliar with woodlanders. "If I remember correctly..."

Zolomon nods as he will  leads the way to the base when they are ready, meanwhile  he keeps alert as they do so. He makes sure the two order beasts stay close as well till the base is in sight and smiles walking a little ways, but stoping so they can go ahead and help the rat with the wound. "Well we are here almost and there is a..small infirmary in here, its not...much" He will wait if needed if that bolt is coming out of the rat first.

Stormfang snorts, but then again he doesn't want to die really "Get it...out please" He says after a while softly. If one looks he has a tattoo on his right upper arm of..A black rose flower with vines and thorns around it.

Matilda glances at the squirrel, the shrugs. "Well, he said please, so that's a start." She kneels beside the captive and removes her haversack from her back. "If you jump me while I do this I'll break your paw," she says as a warning, then opens her backpack and pulls out a first aid kit. "Slavers, huh? Didn't have many of those where I'm from. If we to worry about vermin, it was the dumb sea rats. Papa and our neighbors always sent them packing." She goes to put a tourniquet on the rat's leg above the bolt, cinching it tight. "And while I am taking it out and dressing your wound as best as I can, you'll need more help than I can give you, so I suggest you answer all of my new friend's questions. Okay?" She smiles at him, but it lacks the warmth that the smile she gave the mice was full of.

Zolomon notices the tattoo and doesn't ask for permission to get a better look and steps back "Black Rose..he is a member of that bally Black Rose group"

Stormfang snorts but holds still, well best he can. He last his cutlass in the woods but he doesn't try to attack them as he glares at the hare, well so much for that secret its out now."What questions is that woodlander"

John smiles, stepping back. "Well you heard the beast, miss!" The knife is slipped back into place. "And really, if you can save the bolt it would save me an arm and a leg." The squirrels says, tapping a pouch that makes a clink of coins. Earwood moves behind Stormfang, tipping the spear to point back at him. "Don't try anything, or I'll, uh, stab..." The free rat winces at his choice of words. John, however doesn't notice, instead resisting the urge to kick the bolt and wound when he actually sees the tattoo. He really does not care for slavers. "Aye, I didn't have much to worry about in terms of slavers when I was young, either. But the more traveled I got," His expression darkens, glaring at the rat, "Well, I've seen many good beasts suffer." Glancing, then, at the hare, he adds, "What, the big female wildcat matching the description of their leader didn't tip you off?"

Matilda purses her lips. "I have so much to learn....." she murmers, then takes a deep breath. "Um, could you please hold him down? Even if he tried to not move, he still will." Once there are people holding down her enemy/patient, the hedgehog maid goes to grab the bolt and pull it out, doing as little damage as possible. The tourniquet will keep the wound from bleeding out, but once she gets the bolt out, she pulls out a threaded needle and goes to sew the wound shut as quickly as possible. She obviously has more experience with fabric than with flesh, but she's trying.

Zolomon  seeing a vole he speaks to him and sigh and points to the rat and walks back over to them "Xandy isn't here....but I am sure he is jolly well somewhere, maybe the abbey or on patrol..Ferravale maybe."He looks at the rat and shakes his head "Not sure where to put..this rat, ok you have a name or just..the rat?"

Stormfang yeps a couple times but fine he will answer the question and...maybe others "Stormfang"

As the hedgehog works on the slaver - with Earwood holding him down, John sits down nearby, as if there wasn't an operation going on right next to him. He shrugs at the hare's question, responding with, "I don't know were would work if the camp doesn't. The town? I don't quite trust every beast there." At the name, John looks over at him, causally spreading out his paws to rest on them as he does so, leaning back. "So Stormfang, mate, you said you'd answer questions?" His tone is oddly friendly, "I have a few, but not all for here and now, y'know." After a moment, he sits up, turning to face the rat. "First off: being slavers, have you sold any beast from Mossflower? If so, when and where did they go?" His voice has dropped all forms of friendliness now, instead sounding very much like he might do horrible if Stormfang doesn't cooperate.

Zolomon folds his arms over his chest, he has heard of one already but sees if the rat says anything first.

Matilda is now trying to get the right herbs on the jaggedly-sewn injury and bandage it up tightly and securely. She stays quiet for now, letting the beasts who are actually from around here deal with the questions. "Let's take him to your base for now. He can answer questions on the way." She puts all her stuff away, closes her haversack and prepositions it on her back, then stands, trying to rinse the blood off of her paws with water from her canteen. She'll follow the hare back to the base and go to wherever there is food. She's hungry, yo.

Stormfang glares and looks at the ground, then replies "Melthna(if spelled wrong fix it sorry)...not in charge, neither is Darkshadow...Ormaz took over....and yeah we sold a couple beast cause this squirrel and some hedgehog called Ace tried ta escape, usually slaves that do that are killed...in front of all the other slaves and slavers, but I don't know where they took em'...Ormaz just took them away and came back, said they were sold ta some beast and would never be found and...trust me that stoat is scary..he is gonna kill all ya lot..I would just leave Mossflower and find a happy place if I were you lot"

John hops up. "Right then! Lead onward, Zolomon!" He makes a grab for one of Stormfang's arms (while Earwood goes for the other) hoist him up. "Up you get, /master/ Stormfang." The squirrel says with a bite of sarcasm, then whispers to him, "I really do hope, for both our sakes, you're more helpful than that." It was news that Ormaz was now in charge - but the prisoner didn't have to know what John knew or didn't know. It was a shame about Ace and the other... "The amount of bones of past vermin leaders who wanted Mossflower and the Abbey is quite a sizable pile, mate - I doubt Ormaz will be the one to /finally/ do it in the end."

Zolomon makes sure the path stays clear as they get there soon and looks around "Thar is enough here to guard the rotter, so I don't think he will try and escape and we can always let..-certain beasts- watch him. if needed" They are soon at the base and Mossflower Defender's Headquarters.

Stormfang snorts, he dislikes this and listens "What ya..striped dog...hmmmps badgers don't scare me...Ormaz killed one soo..."

Zolomon smirks as he will make sure the rat is...well sort of cozy and tied up "Oh..he will be here I am sure...nope I meant another beast..friend..."He smiles "He's not a badger, well this fellow isn't..he's a monitor. Right jolly fellow....unless your a slaver. In fact I will send word for him to come right over and help"

Matilda's eyes widen. "Wait, a monitor?" Aaand he's gone. Grimacing, she bows slightly to the squirrel. "Well, I guess I'll leave you. I haven't eaten for a while, so I'm just gonna pop over to the kitchens and see if I can nab anything. I'll send someone with food for you, if I can. It was nice to meet you." She waves and heads off to do just that. When she arrives in the kitchens, she finds something that makes her happy she almost cries: a nice, fresh blueberry pie. She takes half of it, as well as cheese and bread. After she's done eating, she goes off to find a quiet room in which to spend the night. She may have to end up taking food to John herself....

Raising a paw, John says, rather quickly, "Hey, I'd hold off on that! We don't want the poor rat eaten now, do we?" He doesn't know Ferro all that well, and. To him the only reason you'd call up a monitor is to, well... "We did agree to let hm live, for now, after all, and I think I'll ask him a few more." The squirrel takes out his sword, tilting it to look at the blade, then the rat. "As for what you should be scared of, /master/ Stormfang, is squirrel who knows some mighty ghastly things about causing pain but not death- who happens to be getting rather peeved with you." After a moment, he adds, "And this monitor. I'm sure he'd enjoy playing with you!" He glances at the hedgehog, nodding. "Right then." Earwood, still having his spear turned on the other rat, calls after her, "Thank ya miss!"

Zolomon had not gone to far as he shrugs "Wot ever...and the monitor is...oh she is..oh well" He chuckles at the eaten part and shrugs again "The rat just needs to answer some nice questions is all"

Stormfang blinks and then smirks "You guys don't have a monitor....that's funny monitor."

John shrugs. "Well, they're the blacksmith, right?" He looks over at Zolomon, looking for clarification, "Even if we don't, I happen to have a blade here." Stepping back, the squirrel tilts it to point at the captive, asking Earwood, "Say, mate, you don't need a tail to live, right? But of course if Stormfang stops his sass now we won't have to worry about it." Earwood's eyes go wide, and he himself steps back. "Er, no - iI've known a few beasts who lost their tails! But, uh, I think I'm gonna go get some grub too now. Good luck!" He says rather hastily, the rat making his way to the food. John just raises an eyebrow his helper leaves, turning back to face Stormfang. "Really, I wouldn't worry so much about what isn't nearby, like this monitor we may or may not have or your boss, and instead start worrying about what is." He smiles. "Like me."

Zolomon chuckles "Yes the blacksmith is a monitor..very protective of friends...so..rat, what do you know of going ons around Mossflower, like where was the two abbey beasts being taken?"

Stormfang snorts but replies "To our hideout...base to be slaves. If we had abbey beasts maybe we could demand taxes better, they would pay the taxes to keep those two mice alive"

John nods. "Uh huh, I see." The squirrel circles around the rat, his blade still out. "Here's a more deep question: Why do beasts always want taxes? I don't even think Redwall has much of an income when it comes to coin." He stops directly in front of Stormfang, raising his sword to rest the point ever so slightly on the rat's snout. "And what makes you and your ilk think they can successfully get taxes?"

Stormfang just stays close by to listen

Stormfang just stays close by to listen, seems he isn't going to chat right now and is refusing to say a word.

Zolomon sighs "This is not going well, hmmms maybe someone else should question him and who knows why they always want taxes "

Shaking his head, John circles the rat again. "I suppose you're right, hare." Then, quick as snake, he swings the sword down towards Stormfang's tail, the squirrel letting all the anger and frustration built up at that point out in a single, savage downward blow. Far, far to excessive, perhaps, and John will probably regret going so far later, but at the moment he is too far gone to care.

Zolomon blinks, ok...it would seem the rat may be tailless now "Umm....is that needed to be done lad?"

Stormfang yelps loudly and whimpers as most of his tail is suddenly gone and he look sat the squirrel in a bit more terror now and the hare also, another whimper as he bleeds a little, lucky not too much and gulps a bite.."Ummm...uhhhhh"

"Oy, anybody 'ere?" There's a new voice from somewhere nearby. "Thought I'd stop by, see wot's up, say 'ello, all that rot..." It seems to be an otter calling out, judging by his accent.

John just shrugs in response, running his paw through the newly graying fur at his temples. Wiping his swords, he goes to a fire and pulls out a large log. "Need to cartelize the wound. Stand still, rat." He brandishes the burning stick, holding it in the rat's general direction. At the new voice, however, he glances over, recalling something from seasons ago. "Lee?" He asks, as if he weren't holding a blazing log in one paw and an open blade in the other.

Zolomon frowns "Ummm...John we just want to stop the bleeding not burn de rat alive"

Stormfang screams and faints, hopefully the tail is saved from losing any more blood but just the thought of...fire so close to him and...would they burn him....well he will wake later to see he is fine or as fine as one can be he supposes.

Lee comes into view, around the corner of a wall. "Well, if it ain't ol' John! 'Ow long's it been? Two, three... Four seasons? Longer? Well, well... Wot 'ave ye got 'ere?" He regards the bleeding, tailless rat, the burning log, the sword... The Squirrel. "Wot are ye doin', Mate?"

Looking down as the rat passes out, he shoves the flaming brand down into Stormfang's now tailless stump, clearing and sealing the wound. "Asking a few questions from this nice slaver here. And saving his...life." He pokes the rat's unconscious body with his boot. "And I think it's been longer. Was gone for two winters." The way he says it clearly indicates he's in a bit of a foul mood. "This down there is Stormfang, of the Blackrose. A truly horrible beast."

Zolomon nods "We have some slaver issues in Mossflower...beasts disappearing and..sadly some killed, this rat is part of the trouble but not the main one casein it"

Zolomon says, "Also he had two order beasts..Brother Fred and Sister Mazzy captive, they are fine now not ta worry""

Lee makes a face. "Ugh, that lot? We've 'ad ta double ta patrol at Camp Willow because of them... An' I've 'eard that th' Abbey 'as been closed. 'Ow did the abbeybeasts get out ta be taken? Only fightin' beasts like myself are allowed in or out... Took me wife an' children back there ta be safer."

Zolomon says, "I am not sure, think they were out before the abbey gates were closed, been a little over 2 weeks believe"

John shrugs. "I don't know what they were doing, mate." He sighs, putting his sword away and tossing the flaming brand back into the fire. "Don't suppose you know somewhere we can put this..." The squirrel gestures to the rat, "That would be safe? Were he won't be freed, or killed?" The question was open to either hare or otter to answer.

(Repose)

Lee shrugs. "There ought to be a cell here, right? Someplace to lock 'im up, surely..."

Zolomon hmms and frowns "Maybe tis an idea....none here but there is jail cells in Ferravale do we bally well take him there or wait and see what Xandy says?"

The squirrel looks around, looking at the hare as he answers. "Really, no cells here? Might want to fix that soon." He looks a bit peeved. "We took him here thinking there were cells, after all."

Lee hrmms. "We've got a lock-up over in Camp Willow, an' I'd offer ta take 'im there, but I'm on me way ta Redwall.."

Zolomon sighs "well not like he will escape wot, too many to watch him"

John nods. "I doubt this Ormaz will go after Camp Willow - I don't think the Blackrose are the type to attack a heavily armed place..." He turns to the hare. "Too many to watch him escape, perhaps, but walls and defenses'll help stop him being rescued. Redwall - they could bolt him in a spare room high up..."

Lee crosses his arms. "Oy, ye'd 'ave ta talk ta Benar 'bout that, an' there's no guarantee 'e'll agree to it. An' I wouldn't blame 'im, either. Ferravale is probally a better option. Blisa is an honorable cat."

Zolomon says, "The only ones going to Redwall tonight is the two order beasts...there is a hedgehog lass here too, resting couple days me or someone else can get her to the abbey also, she was curious of the place""

Sitting down on a nearby log, John gives the otter a long look. "He's rather fine with letting Marek to go in and out now, so I don't know what he'll do..." He shrugs, leaning back. "As for Ferravale, while Blisa is honorable, some the beasts allowed around there - such as a rat named Patch - certainly /aren't/. And Ormaz has been allowed to slip in before..." The squirrel rubs his face, leaning forward.

Lee frowns. "Marek may be allowed to enter, but I can assure you Benar doesn't like it anymore than I do. So... Looks like oy

Lee says, "Looks like our best bet is Camp Willow lock-up. I'll just 'ave to back track before goin' ta Redwall..."

"That'll do." John says, standing, "And thanks." Going over to grab a bit of extra rope that was on a barrel, he comes back, bending down to tie up the unconscious rat. He seems a bit tired now, falling into silence.

Zolomon says, "Can Camp Willow question de rat good also any info he may give would be important perhaps, if he has any he can share that is"

Lee glances at the hare. "Yer askin' whether otters can 'andle a rat... 'Course we can question 'im."

Standing, John says to the hare, "Aye, Zolomon. If anyone can get actual answers from a beast, it'd be otters. And they're far better fighters than most at the abbey." Here, he nods to Lee. "Really, thank you. It's been an interesting day." The squirrel stretches with a groan, something popping in his back. "Anyway, I think I might go find that food tent the hedgehog and ol' Earwood mentioned. Haven't eaten since breakfast. Good day to you two, and stay safe, Lee." With farewells out of the way, he turns sharply, his swishing back and forth, and John wonders deeper into the camp, rubbing his temples as a migraine threatens to settle in.

Zolomon sighs as he looks tried also, trying to figure out what to do.

Xander walks into the base about this time and glaces around "Did I...miss anything, someone said I was needed, so...what happen now?"

Lee nods to Xander in greeting, then gestures to the unconscious rat at his feet. "Oh, nothin' much... Got me a pris'ner 'ere that I'm apparently takin' ta Camp Willow soon..."

Zolomon nods "Yeah had a couple order beasts captive, I was gonna take them to the abbey. The rat...well Camp Willow may be ok but we do need to know what the rat bally well knows if anything useful. I mean we can't just let him go"

Xander listens and looks at the rat "I have..seen him around with that cat and some martin...no don't let him escape that wouldn't be a good plan at all..abbey beasts, who?"

Zolomon answers "Sister Mazzy and Brother Fred" He goes to fetch the two mice and nods "Not ta worry...me and Jim here will get them to the abbey safe and sound" A squirrel nods that is with the hare, seems to not talk much. Then he and the hare head to the abbey.

Lee crosses his arms. "We'll get that info outta him. We 'ave our...ways."

Xander looks to Lee as he nods to Zolomon and Jim "Well..."He is quiet " Least we prevented more slaves but others are still slaves and worse...sold..."He frowns "We have to find a way to free the other slaves, find them and free them we have to"

Zolomon looks back at the base, he would surely agree, the other slaves need found and freed soon. He finally gets to the abbey and gets inside as he looks around.

Brother Fred and Sister Mazzy stay close to one another when another figure comes into view they right away hug him, it's Oz who indeed hugs them back and calms them as they are afraid, but glad to be back.

Zolomon speaks “Mazzy and Fred....saved them Ozzy...and I gotta go to the infirm, me jaw is...swollen..long story oh and Xandy is at de Defender base....ok....nice chat...owich....jaw”He disappears to the infirm, a long nap and then food..maybe depends on his sore jaw.

Oz listens to the two mice and sighs “First you two should have been back sooner I shouldn't have to...lecture order beasts...and I won't...get to the infirm, get some food and rest and I am glad your safe. I will inform Benar your safe.” Oz leds them to the infirm, makes sure the two mice have some food and drink of water and makes sure they get some rest and then he goes to tell Benar the two order beasts are back and no longer missing, some good news instead of bad .
