Varus Found- LP Log

Velm has led this small group of hares to find Major Varus, they got a couple leads but no luck just yet, it's possible they may have barely missed him one time.The Lt. was starting to get tired but this was an important mission.

The dunes are not the most hospitable location. Despite being situated close to the sea the area is otherwise somewhat arid, lacking much in the way of plant-cover, and no trees at all. In short, not the easiest place for a beast to hide. However, when one is going off of deeply entrenched survival training there are plenty of ways to evade detection. In the meantime, a group of hares are traversing the dunes, searching for just a well-hidden hare. Olivia pauses, and shades her eyes from the sun. "I think we should head in a more northerly direction. That way." She looks over at Velm. "It'd probably be best to split the group in two. We can cover more ground tha' way."

Rhonwen stays close while glancing around,she will go where told.

Velm nods, "True....he has to be somewhere close by,"Least bally well hope so"

The older hare nods her head. "Well... I think Felicity and Slaw should be that way." She points in a north-easterly direction. "And we'll go around more toward the west."

Rhonwen clears her throat"And I am...with you guys then correct?" She stays close to her group as this is her first mision she been on really.

Velm nods"Sounds good and yes Private Rhonwen, also Dom can.....oh guess he is staying with SlaW and Felicity, good then"

Olivia nods again. "Yes. Well... C'mon. I'm not in charge here, of course." She looks at Velm. "Shall we?"

Velm nods as he leads on, looking for Varus and keeping an eye out for any dangers.

Rhonwen follows and stays close to her group as they look around, she scans for any movement in the area they are in.

Olivia takes a drink of water from her canteen, and keeps an eye out with the others. Little do they all know, they are all being watched from not that far off. A suspicious beast hiding behind a rock, and camouflaged with a sand-colored cape.

Velm sighs "He has ta bally well be somewhere, we will find him soon I am sure, just gotta be careful and look" They been looking for days, maybe even barely missing him once.

Rhonwen frowns, shestays alert thinking she saw movement once abd then relaxes,but still alert as she keeps her eyes and ears open.

Olivia frowns. "He's got many seasons of desert-survival trainin'," she remarks. "He could evade us f'r months, if he wanted to." She sighs. "We gotta out-think that kind of trainin'." She spies a rock, and think she sees subtle movement, but starts to dismiss it.

Velm frowns "Well let's hope not, he needs home."He hmms, where would he possible hide if he wanted to.He slowly scans the area they are in,even taking a 2nd look around for any movement, any at all or odd sound.

Rhonwen is not as trained but knows to keep eyes and ears open in case of danger, she uses it now to try and find the Major.

Olivia raises her paw, and shushes for a moment, her long ears perked, listening for the slightest sound. "We're bein' followed," she murmurs, as quietly as possible."

Velm stays quiet and more alert, he after all doesn't know if it's friend or foe, he listens now as well.He makes sure Rhonwen is still close as it could be unwise to be too far apart right now.

Rhonwen gets a little worried but she forces herself to stay calm right now, she is a long patrol hare and they are to be brave. She does stay close to her group listening carefully for any sound large or small.

Not too far off, a clump of rocks pokes out of the sand, and the camouflaged figure behind the outcropping realizes they've been detected. They start to try and slip away. Meanwhile, Olivia points. "There... Over near those rocks. They can't get far. C'mon."

Velm nods and goes to get near therocks, carefully and alert as he did see movement and is focused on it now.

Rhonwen follows, staying alert and watching for other movement in that general direction that was pointed out.
Olivia advances slowly, as the figure becomes aware and starts to flee. But Olivia calls out, "In th' name of th' Long Patrol, stop!" She looks at the others, and then starts to chase the cloaked figure across the sand.

Velm motions for Rhonwen to help, the hares can create a sort of blockade to hopefully surround who ever this figure it they are after.

Rhonwen nods, she's..a fair runner,not the best but she knows how to try and block a creature in so they is more of a chance of catching him

The beast runs, but Olivia is fast on her footpaws, and she easily catches up. Realizing this, the beast turns, and stops, to stand his ground. "Wot are y' doin' on mah land?" he says. "Yahr trespassin'. Get outta here!"

Velm gets close and motions Rhonwen to as well, he listens closely to the voice, "Calm down, it's alright." He studies the beast and keeps very alert .

Rhonwen starts to speak and then just stays quiet,but alert to the beast thats in front off therm, tilting her head as she studies him some, yep it's a hare alright
The hare hefts a war axe, and holds it in a threatening manner. "I warn ya... I know 'ow t' use this... Don't think I don't. I killed tha' cat wi' it. Who are you? Speak quickly, now!" Olivia is taken aback, considering it's her husband, but he seems not to recognize them at all. "We're, ah... We're from the Long Patrol. We're lookin' for a missin' friend..."

Velm stays calm but alert "Its alright sah...your safe with us."He knows it's Varus now and tries to think how ro jolt something in his memory "Looking fer a Major Varus....also his friends are missing him,and yes you did kill de cat sur"

Rhonwen salutes Varus just out of automatic training and then just slowly puts her paw down and stays close.

Varus narrows his eyes with suspicion. "Aye, well... There ain't no Long Patrol 'ares anywhere around 'ere. An' there ain't been any in th' last sev'ral weeks. So you turn right 'round an' 'ead back t' yahr mountain over there, an' I won't get angry, eh wot."

Velm frowns, a deep breath "Sur, your a Long Patrol hare..."He then takes a careful step closer"Do any of these names..mean a thing?..Ciocan...Terrence..Oliva here."He points to her, he hhmms"Zolomon...Zolomon And you had a sort of..argument sur. "

Rhonwen isn't sure how to help and Velma is a healer,she stays close still and alert, worried she say the wrong thing so she is quiet for now.

Varus raises his weapon threateningly. "Not anothah step there. I'm warnin' y'." He frowns, looking between the hares. Olivia holds up her paw, and gives Velm a pointed look, then says to Varus, "We've 'eard reports of Vermin activity out 'ere in th' dunes, an' we'd like to ask you t' come back wi' us t' the mountain t' talk about it. There's been slavers active nearby, an' we'd like your help." It's bald-faced lie, but she hopes it'll defuse the tension.

Velm nods,he catches on to what is happening and lets Olvia do the talking for now.

Rhonwen frowns but stays quiet, she is a private after all so its not like she knows as much as the others might know.

Varus lowers his axe slightly, now that Olivia is talking. He hasn't seen any slavers, but he *has* seen vermin about, so he's willing to listen. "Go on," he says. Olivia nods. "Just come with us, Lord Ciocan is very keen to thank you for dispatchin' the cat sev'ral weeks ago. And there's that vermin problem I mentioned."
Velm relaxes but he is still very alert and watching Varus.He nods in agreement with Olvia and it seems Varus is more willing to listen to her, this could be a very good sign and hopefully something inside the mountain will help.

Rhonwen stays quiet and not moving, movement seemed to upset Varus,she does stay alert just in case, and glaces around to look for signs of possible trouble.

Varus harrumps. "Oh, 'e wants t' thank me, does 'e? Well... We'll see about tha'... I'll come along, but don't expect me t' stick around. C'mon... It'll be dahk soon."

Velm nods "Yes it will be sur and tis not always safe out in de open at night."And that is the truth so its easily said. He will help, looks like escort Varus back to the mountain, hopefully get him to stay longer if needed to jolt something, anything.

Rhonwen stays close, she acts as a rear guard as she had been told earlier. If others come someone can update them on what is going on and what happen

Olivia nods her head. "Yes, well... Let us go." She hates that Varus seems not to remember her. But that's something to deal with over time. The group turns back toward the mountain, Olivia making sure the apparently unwilling Varus doesn't just wander off.

Velm helps lead them back, scaning the area for troubles as he does so,its good Varus is coming along, he is glad of this.

Rhonwen follows, stays as a back guard for the group.She is ever alert.

As they get back to Salamandastron, a few hares give Varus a salute, without realizing. One of the medics tries to get Varus to the Infirmary, but Olivia shoos them off. "We'll let you stay in one of the unused quarters... Until Lord Ciocan is ready to speak to you, alright?"

Velm motions some hares to go do whatever it is they should be doing right now as they enter the mountain, Velm seems a lot more relaxed now that they have Varus inside.

Varus hmmphs and scowls. "Well, tell 'im I'm in a hurry, will ya. I need t' get back. Yahr all too uptight for mah likin'."

Velm frowns but doesn't say anything, he may not remember he is Major yet but he would likely remember if anything rude was said when he does remember, "We will let his Lordship know sur"

Varus nods. "Good, well... I'll go wait." He lets himself be led to one of the unoccupied dorms, while Olivia sighs. "We can't keep th' ruse up forever, I'm afraid..."

Velm frowns, he speaks quietly"Somethings got to jog..something, maybe seeing the badger lord or others. I had a little memory lost too...maybe talk about Varus...ummm to Varus.."He shrugs.
Olivia sighs. "Amnesia can be persistent, I'm afraid. All we c'n do is keep 'im here as long as we can..."

Velm nods "Right....I mean if we..have ta..."He shrugs,"If comes ta it....might have to place him in a cell, but only as a last resort.We also need to update his Lordship on this"

Olivia shakes her head. "He will not be placed in a cell. I'll take care of him... He's my husband, after all."

Velm nods "Yes, maybe your be able to reach him somehow, you know him lot better than most of us do"

Olivia nods. "Regardless... I need to go tell Ciocan. I'll see you after..." She sighs. "He'll be alright soon, is wot I keeptellin' myself..."

Velm nods "Sounds good ta me.I will let you handle it...I will see about getting Varus something to eat and drink."He salutes her and heads off.
